At 12.18am on Thursday, 25th August the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire at an unoccupied building in Greenock. The fire broke through the roof and 24 firefighters were engaged in fighting the fire. During the firefighting operations a firefighter was seriously injured following the collapse of an external wall. He is currently in Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Closure of Inverness & Aberdeen Fire Control Rooms   Chief Fire Officer Alasdair Hay has announced the intended closure dates of the two Emergency Fire Control rooms in Aberdeen & Inverness and transferring operations to Dundee.

Fire chiefs in Scotland have been heavily criticised after it was revealed almost 1,000 posts have been axed in three years. It is now feared that lives will be put at risk because of a lack of staff.
